From Stornoway to Oban: Possible Route
Day 1. Stornoway – Start of your adventure
Your sailing adventure begins in the heart of Stornoway at the marina. At 17:00, we, Jan-Willem and Mariëlle, welcome you on board. You will have time to explore the ship and meet your fellow travellers and crew. After this introduction, we enjoy a shared dinner on board. Afterwards, we will tell you everything about the journey ahead and prepare for the adventures to come.
Day 2. Towards a bird paradise: The Shiant Isles
On the second day, we set course early for one of the most special places of this journey: the Shiant Isles. After a sail of approximately 20 nautical miles, keeping an eye out for dolphins, seabirds and perhaps even whales, we reach this remote island group in the middle of the Minch. The Shiants are known as a bird paradise, home to thousands of puffins, razorbills and gannets nesting on steep cliffs.
With enough time to go ashore, we explore these rugged and untouched islands rich in nature and tranquility. The shimmering sea and constant movement of birds make this place unforgettable. We spend the night at anchor in this unique natural setting.
Day 3. Tarbert: Harris Tweed and whisky
Today we sail to Tarbert, a charming harbour on the Isle of Harris in the Outer Hebrides. Known for its picturesque setting and friendly atmosphere, Tarbert offers a perfect overnight stop in the marina. Explore local attractions, visit a distillery to taste fine Scottish whisky, or discover the history of Harris Tweed. A perfect place to enjoy island culture and craftsmanship.
Day 4. Duntulm, Skye: Castle ruins and breathtaking views
Duntulm, located at the northern tip of the Isle of Skye, is rich in history and natural beauty. Here you will find the ruins of Duntulm Castle, once home to the powerful MacDonald clan. Perched on a cliff, it offers spectacular views over the Minch and the Outer Hebrides.
The surroundings are perfect for spotting seabirds, seals and, with some luck, even dolphins. With its serene bay and rugged coastline, Duntulm is a special stop for both nature lovers and history enthusiasts.
Day 5. Rona: Hidden gem of the Inner Hebrides
We sail to the remote island of Rona, located west of Skye. This island offers a unique combination of tranquility and untouched nature. Rona has one permanent resident: the island caretaker. Enjoy walks along narrow paths where you may encounter red deer roaming freely. Rona is a scenic island with breathtaking views over surrounding waters.
Day 6. Plockton: Picturesque village with a tropical feel
Plockton is a charming village on the shores of Loch Carron, known for its unique mix of mountains, palm trees and calm waters. Thanks to the Gulf Stream, it enjoys a mild climate that allows tropical plants to thrive. The village is famous for its colourful cottages and picturesque harbour.
Day 7. Through the Sound of Sleat to Loch Nevis
We sail through the beautiful Sound of Sleat, a narrow sea channel between Skye and the mainland. Surrounded by dramatic mountains and rolling hills, it is a spectacular sailing route. In the afternoon we reach Loch Nevis, a remote and serene location accessible only by boat, where we anchor and enjoy the peaceful surroundings.
Day 8. Eigg: Hike to the top of An Sgurr
We sail to Eigg, one of the Small Isles, where the impressive rock formation An Sgurr dominates the landscape. For those up for the challenge, a hike to the summit offers breathtaking panoramic views. Afterwards, relax in the local pub.
Day 9. Colourful Tobermory
We sail to the Isle of Mull and dock in Tobermory. With its iconic colourful houses, the village invites you to explore. Enjoy authentic Scottish cuisine in one of the cosy pubs.
Day 10. Kerrera and Captain’s Dinner
On our final sailing day, we visit the peaceful island of Kerrera near Oban. With stunning views and no traffic, it’s a perfect hiking destination. In the evening, we celebrate with a festive Captain’s Dinner on board.
