Transfers (travel-info) to and from the ship

For practical reasons we ask you to organise your transport from and to the ship yourself, these costs are therefor not included in the travel fee. On this page you will find information and useful links for flights and transfers from the harbours from which Steady will depart for it’s sailing holidays.

Inverness (Scotland)

Inverness has its own airport, from which you can take a bus or taxi to the ship.

  • Bus: Take Line 11/11A to Inverness city center. From there, it is about a 30-minute walk to the marina.
  • Taxi: A taxi ride to the marina takes approximately 30 minutes.

Oban (Scotland)

Flight: Oban does not have its own airport. The nearest major airport is Glasgow International Airport. From Glasgow, you can continue to Oban by train or bus.

Train: From Glasgow Airport, take the “Airport Express” (Bus Service 500) to Glasgow Queen Street train station. The journey takes approximately 25 minutes, with buses departing every 10 minutes. Tickets can be purchased on the bus for about £5.

From Glasgow Queen Street, direct trains to Oban are available. The journey takes approximately 3 hours and 10 minutes. Tickets start at £18.70 one-way when booked in advance.

Bus: Scottish Citylink operates bus services from Glasgow to Oban. Buses depart from Buchanan Bus Station, adjacent to Glasgow Queen Street train station. The journey takes approximately 3 hours and 3 minutes. Tickets cost between £22 and £30.

Taxi: A taxi from Glasgow Airport to Glasgow Queen Street train station costs approximately £19. From there, you can continue your journey to Oban by train.

Ullapool (Scotland)

Although Ullapool doesn’t have its own airport, reaching it is easy via Inverness Airport (INV), from where you can take a scenic bus journey to Ullapool.

Bus from Inverness to Ullapool:

  • The journey takes approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes.
  • Scottish Citylink operates service 961 from Inverness Bus Station to Ullapool Ferry Terminal.
  • Departure times vary, but there is typically a departure in the early afternoon (e.g., around 15:10).
  • Tickets usually cost between £13 and £19.

Taxi from Inverness to Ullapool:

  • A taxi from Inverness Airport or city center to Ullapool takes around 1 hour and 15 minutes.
  • Prices vary, but the fare is typically between £85 and £110.
  • It’s recommended to book a taxi in advance, especially during peak travel times.

 

Stornoway (Scotland)

1. Ferry from Ullapool to Stornoway:

  • Route: Caledonian MacBrayne operates a ferry service between Ullapool on the mainland and Stornoway on the Isle of Lewis.
  • Duration: The crossing takes approximately 2 hours and 45 minutes.
  • Frequency: Services run seven days a week, with up to 13 crossings per week.
  • Booking: It’s advisable to book tickets in advance, especially if you’re traveling with a vehicle.

 

2. Flights to Stornoway:

  • Airports: Stornoway Airport (SYY) receives flights from several Scottish cities.
  • From Glasgow: Multiple flights are available Monday through Thursday, with fewer on weekends.
  • From Edinburgh: One or two flights daily.
  • From Inverness: One to three flights daily.
  • Duration: Flight times are approximately one hour.
  • Booking: Check with airlines for current schedules and fares.

 

Additional Considerations:

  • Travel to Ullapool: If opting for the ferry, Ullapool is accessible by bus from Inverness. The bus journey takes about 1 hour and 20 minutes.
  • Vehicle Hire: If you plan to explore the Isle of Lewis extensively, consider hiring a vehicle, as public transport options may be limited in some areas.

 

Both travel options offer unique experiences, whether it’s the scenic ferry ride across the Minch or the convenience of a short flight. Choose the one that best fits your itinerary and preferences.
